The proposal for the remodeling of the old Los Angeles Cinema as a cultural polyvalenthall, is based on three fundamental aspects:
1_ Recuperation of the original patio.
By analyzing the building history, it was discovered that the Los Angeles Cinema in its origins had a patio between the main hall and the southwestern limit of the property, that later was covered to obtain the present complemetary galery. Recovering this outer space as an entrance hall, essential in a building of these characteristics, will increase notably its functionality, accessibility, flexibility and spatial quality.
2_Conservation of the architectural elements related to the Cinema’s history:
In order to enhance the so called ‘sentimental’ values of the building, capable of evoking memories to those whose assisted to the Cinema in the past, the following preserved elements should be highlighted: the main façade, the inner hydraulic tile pavement with several patterns and colours, and the light entrances through the upper windows.
3_Creation of the new interior image
A new white skin unfolds in the interior, separated from the existent closure by a variable distance. This functional skin will define the building´s new interior image and will permit the enhancement of the zenithal light entrances to the hall and opening it to the rural landscape in the back, using a system of folds, setting up expansions in three dimensions. At the same time it is used to create spaces for storage and necessary installations, which adapt the hall to modern requirements, such as air conditioning and acoustics.
