The requirements from the property were clear: a complete refurbishment of the interior of an apartment in a building from the 60s, located in the center of Santa Cruz. This apartment has a limited frontal facade and a considerable depth; this means that the necessary corridor would become an important space of this home. It is designed to become a usable space. All the doors leading to the adjoining rooms are sliding panels that move in the wall’s plane, being at level with the wall. A series of white shelves are located between the pillars creating a small library. The living room opens up to a view of the roofs and cypresses of El Pilar’s church, while the rest of the apartment faces to two patios in the back of the building. The protagonism is given to the light and to white color. A system of illumination is studied, which consists of horizontal gaps where the walls and ceilings meet. This system is combined with the natural lightning coming from openings of the facade and the patios; whose light is filtered with a system of motorized shades, bathing the complete apartment in a whitish light.
